I don't know about you, but I am freaking fah-reeeezing right now. I hate this weather, and it hasn't even really begun. I hate being cold, more than most other things, it's a definite top 3 in the "Bri hates these things" list. So, obviously my mind has been wandering at night, when I go to bed in: my fluffy bathrobe (it's cozier than my pajamas), slipper socks, wrapped in a chenille blanket like a burrito, and then finally under my duvet. You think I'm joking? I wish I were, but I'm just that much of a baby. My mind wanders to summer days & complaining about how hot it is, and how little clothing I can get away with wearing, and then sadness to think it is a solid 6 months before those items can be dusted off again.. Or is it? You all know by now I like to be creative with my clothing pairing, so here I will give you some tips on how to take some of your summer staples and incorporate them into your winter wear, without catching frostbite in unfortunate places.
- Add some tights. Aka your best friend this winter - aside from leggings, natch. They instantly add warmth to your legs, and take a short sundress, skirt or shorts into the new season with you, with minimal effort. I find the darker and more opaque the tights, the more you can get away with.
- Tis the season of layering! Layer your favorite sundress under a cardigan and leggings; layer the sleeveless peplum top over a striped long sleeve tee for an unexpected twist.
- Knot the maxi and wear over boots, and if cold enough, tights - see? #BFF4L.
- Crop top? Wear over top of a tank, long sleeve shirt, or underneath a blazer or cardigan with something high-waisted.
- My personal favorite, jean shorts and opaque tights with a chunky sweater and booties. If I could get away with wearing this combo to work, I'd never take my cut-offs, off.
Below I've compiled a few favorite summer pieces, and how to work them into being your new favorite winter pieces. Also, while we're on the "it's f-cking
cold" theme, I never used to be this chilly of a person. I used to wear flats through the snow, and I laughed at the idea of wearing gloves. Clearly my circulation is making up for lost time, because my flats have long since been retired for the season, and my #1 online shopping browse is mittens to stockpile. Current favorites? Stay cozy my friends, warm weather is back in.. Roughly 5 months. We can do this! And until then, drink until you're warm, preferably while cuddling something or somebody warm, 'tis the season ;)
