Happy Holidays from Brizz.

I was going to wait until Christmas Eve to post this, but Drunk Uncle should never be not shared right away.

merry christmasMerry Christmas!! Thank you for continually reading my ramblings and getting a kick out of them (hopefully..?) as much as I enjoy writing them. I hope the next week and a bit is full of food, happiness, more food, some boozy drinks - because hellooo it's the holidays -, and that you are spending your time surrounded with those you love, and those who love you. Stay safe, and see you all in 2014! Holy Shit this year went fast.

xoxo,

B

What I Wore Wednesday

Christmas is in a week. A WEEK. I officially finished Christmas shopping/wrapping yesterday, so now I can indulge in my favorite Christmas past-time: Going to the mall and passive aggressively talking to people from my car in the parking lot (for example: "Holy shit, take all the time you need SEDAN, no one else wants to park today", that kind of thing), taking in the batshit crazy last minute shoppers, while enjoying a Starbucks I had to wait in line for 20 minutes for. Ahh, Christmas. But either way, it is officially Holiday Season; the season of stretchy pants, loose shirts and high-waisted leggings to get you through until your New Years resolution "sorry body, let's get healthy again" cleanse starts, Bailey's replacing the cream in your morning coffee (because it's tradition and would be blasphemous not to. Everyone knows Baileys is just creamo's snazzier girlfriend), and spending time with your people, eating too much & drinking too much, all in the name of good ol' St. Nick.

And in no way did any of that have anything to do with these pictures, but here is what I wore in the last little while. Enjoy, and happy holidays!

If I could stuff my own stocking.

My birthday is just over a week before Christmas, so shopping for myself beforehand is just silly, but I still do it. I find it helps inspire me for Christmas shopping? Worst excuse ever, but I've used it for the last 6 years or so, not going to stop anytime soon ;) But, I'm finding lately more than I like the one larger present, I much rather have a whole bunch of little things instead, quantity over quality apparently. So, since I have now decided to stop buying myself anything until Boxing Day, here are the trinkets I've been eyeing up for a while, and would gift as a "to Bri from Bri" so to speak, if I could. c600x613

  1. Funky, unique mugs. I decided this year I want to start collecting mugs, either from travels or just ones that catch my eye. In my mind, the bigger the mug, the better it is. Currently on my wishlist: a "B" mug, anything that has gold accents, and the prettier, the better. If I can find one that has to do with Paris or New York, I'd be set. Examples: herehere and here.

  2. GLOVES. My hands are in a constant state of near-freezing to icecubes cold, so I'm on the hunt for some nice toasty gloves that are a step up from the basic boring ones. And if they allow me to still use my iPhone without taking them off? Winner winner, chicken dinner.

  3. Candles. I got a small version of this one from Chapters last year, and it still hasn't been lit because it smells so pretty I don't want to use it.. So naturally I want more, to never light and just sniff.

  4. These, because they're just so cute.

  5. I'd also continue my journal hoarding. One day I'm going to count all of them up and be disgusted in the amount I have. I don't see that day anywhere near though, so I will continue on. One like this: herehere and here.

  6. And what kind of Christmas present would it be to myself without some chocolate? Ferrero Roche, naturally because they are the best, ever ever.

So long, sweet summer.

I don't know about you, but I am freaking fah-reeeezing right now. I hate this weather, and it hasn't even really begun. I hate being cold, more than most other things, it's a definite top 3 in the "Bri hates these things" list. So, obviously my mind has been wandering at night, when I go to bed in: my fluffy bathrobe (it's cozier than my pajamas), slipper socks, wrapped in a chenille blanket like a burrito, and then finally under my duvet. You think I'm joking? I wish I were, but I'm just that much of a baby. My mind wanders to summer days & complaining about how hot it is, and how little clothing I can get away with wearing, and then sadness to think it is a solid 6 months before those items can be dusted off again.. Or is it? You all know by now I like to be creative with my clothing pairing, so here I will give you some tips on how to take some of your summer staples and incorporate them into your winter wear, without catching frostbite in unfortunate places.

  1. Add some tights. Aka your best friend this winter - aside from leggings, natch. They instantly add warmth to your legs, and take a short sundress, skirt or shorts into the new season with you, with minimal effort. I find the darker and more opaque the tights, the more you can get away with.

  2. Tis the season of layering! Layer your favorite sundress under a cardigan and leggings; layer the sleeveless peplum top over a striped long sleeve tee for an unexpected twist.

  3. Knot the maxi and wear over boots, and if cold enough, tights - see? #BFF4L.

  4. Crop top? Wear over top of a tank, long sleeve shirt, or underneath a blazer or cardigan with something high-waisted.

  5. My personal favorite, jean shorts and opaque tights with a chunky sweater and booties. If I could get away with wearing this combo to work, I'd never take my cut-offs, off.

Below I've compiled a few favorite summer pieces, and how to work them into being your new favorite winter pieces. Also, while we're on the "it's f-cking cold" theme, I never used to be this chilly of a person. I used to wear flats through the snow, and I laughed at the idea of wearing gloves. Clearly my circulation is making up for lost time, because my flats have long since been retired for the season, and my #1 online shopping browse is mittens to stockpile. Current favorites? These guys here, here, here and here.
